XXIX INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON APPLIED ECONOMICS ASEPELT 2015

Sustainability and Sufficiency of Pensions Systems

24-27 June 2015

Dear Friends,

Once again, ASEPELT invites all of you to attend an event geared at discussing and contributing in a positive manner to the improvement and development of Applied Economics and to looking for solutions to the major problems of society from the perspective of the different methodological approaches of Economics.

This year, the Area of Statistics of the University of Castilla-La Mancha has the pleasure and fortune of organising and hosting the XXIX International Conference of Applied Economics ASEPELT, to be held from the 24th to the 27th of June. The University of Castilla-La Mancha has several campuses, and we have chosen, amongst the interesting alternatives available, to hold this renowned conference at the School of Sciences at the campus in the “enchanted” city of Cuenca, considered one of the major monumental cities of Spain with international renown, reason why it was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. But Cuenca is more than its monuments; Cuenca is also nature, culture, gastronomy and offers multiple activities, as you will discover if you decide to join us at this extraordinary event.

The Conference, which is sponsored by the Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles (IEB), amongst other institutions, is entitled “Pension Systems: Sustainability and Sufficiency”, without any doubt a suggestive and recurrent present-day matter which is cause for great concern in both Spain and internationally.

As you can see, the title chosen for the 2015 conference is an invitation to reflect on and discuss, on the basis of the different perspectives of Economics, the field of pensions, one in which most of us are involved through our connections to the labour market, and which, like any other social sphere, is in constant evolution and presents multiple facets for analysis. The future of pensions, and the challenges they entail, offers an excellent opportunity to engage in new lines of research and analysis, from both the theoretical and practical points of view. Issues like the ones included in the title of the conference, namely sustainability and sufficiency of pension systems, but also others such as its efficiency and adaptation to changing demographic, social and productive circumstances, are inevitable when it comes to discussing this topic. It is also essential to discuss pensions from the point of view of investments, an approach which is less developed and which focuses on the optimum management of long term savings and investments, in addition to proposing alternatives to public pension systems; not to mention the study of the different pension models in Europe and the rest of the world. These, and many others, are some of the interesting topics which we invite you to discuss and analyse at this 29th International Conference on Applied Economics ASEPELT.
